Strasbourg United Church
Our Mission Statement:
Strasbourg United Church is LOVE… a
Living community of faith whose
Outreach through worship, caring and
Visiting promotes justice for all by
Encouraging respect & sharing God’s love.
The theology of our faith family is one of grace. No one is excluded from God’s grace and so we also extend unconditional love and grace; offering communion to all, and accepting all requests for services of baptism and marriage.
As a congregation of The United Church of Canada, we pride ourself on welcoming everyone the way Jesus did, regardless of age, race, class, gender, orientation, physical ability or their belief system. The Strasbourg United Church as we know it, had its beginning in the pioneering days at the turn of the century as early church services were held in homes and various other buildings until a Methodist church was built in 1906 and a Presbyterian church was built in 1910. In 1918, they joined to become a Union Church in Strasbourg, which then became part of The United Church of Canada when it was formed in 1925. Many changes have taken place over the years: the congregation has always worshiped in this location and in 2012, celebrated the 25th year of the current building.
Like other Christian churches, The United Church of Canada is rooted in God, Jesus, and the Bible. We have two sacraments, baptism and communion, both of which are open to people of any age. We respect and recognize the baptism from other Christian denominations.
The United Church works together with other Christian churches whenever possible, and partners with other organizations and people of other religions in Canada and throughout the world, on matters of social justice, peace and human dignity.
We see people as unique, loved creations of God and welcome all people to the full life of Christian community, including marriage. We believe God intends loving relationships to be faithful, responsible, just, healing, and sustaining of the couple and those around them, and that such relationships require preparation and nurture. The United Church celebrates the marriage of same-sex couples, previously divorced people, couples of different religions.
