Vicki Cornwell

Councillor

I am 67 years old and have lived in Strasbourg most of my life. I grew up on a farm east of Duval, and my family moved to Strasbourg when I was a child. I received my education in Strasbourg and moved to Duval during the early years of my first marriage and raising my children. I moved to Strasbourg again in 1988 and have lived here since. I am widowed twice, with two sons and a daughter, and a stepson, who have blessed me with thirteen amazing grandchildren.

My first job in 1975 was secretary in the newly opened Strasbourg & District Health Centre, which at the time was a pilot project and is still serving our residents today. I have worked part time as secretary of St. John Lutheran church, casual librarian at Parkland Regional Library Strasbourg Branch, co-owner of User Friendly Computer Systems and co-owner and editor of Last Mountain Times community newspaper, and as customer service agent at Strasbourg Agencies (currently Long Lake Insurance).

Aside from my grandchildren, one of my greatest joys is volunteering. I have been an active volunteer in events and activities throughout my life. I currently volunteer with the Strasbourg Recreation Board where I have been a member for going on 35 years, and the Strasbourg Age-Friendly Recreation Board, both of which provide wonderful programming for residents in our community. I am proud to be a member and chair of Last Mountain Theatre Company, which brings performance arts to our community, another of my passions. I currently represent the Town of Strasbourg on the Strasbourg Branch of the Parkland Regional Library. I sit on St. John church council. I enjoy volunteering at Last Mountain Pioneer Home through the Associate Volunteer Services. I am part of the Senior Reading Program at William Derby School, which is great fun! The Forever in Motion program is another of my passions, and I enjoy being a leader in that program.

I love Strasbourg and am proud to call it home. It is a vibrant and progressive community, and I am grateful to be living here. I will work toward continuing the excellent work that is happening in Strasbourg and am excited to see the positive future that is in store for our residents and community.
