St. Rita Catholic Church

St. Rita Catholic Church located on the corner of Erickson Road and Assiniboia Avenue.

The Catholic families of Strasbourg area were first served by priests coming from Grayson and later Southey. Services were held at peoples homes, occasionally Last Mountain Hotel and a few times at the Town Hall. Through Father Ruben’s (who came from Govan) dedication and hard work, a church was built or obtained, about the year 1936. Also at that time (1936) a Rectory was built at Govan and Govan officially became a parish with Strasbourg becoming a Mission of Govan and was served from there. In 1983, Strasbourg became a Mission of Southey and has been served by Southey ever since.

Over the years the church has seen many changes, improvements have been made and numbers fluctuate. Though always a small congregation, the members pull together like family and we enjoy a near full house every weekend. We are very fortunate to have mass every week on a rotating schedule – Saturday night mass at 7:00 p.m.; Sundays at 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.

Outside of church activities parishioners of St. Rita are involved in delivering Meals on Wheels, Services at Last Mountain Pioneer Home, World Day of Prayer, Festival of Praise, Prelude to Christmas and Interfaith Sunday in summer.
